Victoria Nikkei Cultural Society Annual General Meeting

Support your society and attend the VNCS AGM on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Fairfield Activity Centre 380 Cook Street, Victoria BC.

Proceedings begin at 10 am followed by a short lunch break at 11:30 am. From 12:00—2:00 pm we are pleased to present a free seminar by Linda Kawamoto Reid from the Japanese Canadian National Museum on how to get started on researching your family roots.

There is no charge for VNCS members for the seminar when attending the AGM portion in the morning.

There will be a $10 charge for those attending the seminar but not the AGM portion.
There will be a $20 charge for the seminar for non-VNCS members.

Presenter: Linda Kawamoto Reid, Assistant Archivist, Japanese Canadian National Museum.

Outline of talk:

  • Barriers and bonuses of researching Nikkei Family History – includes handout
  • Brief overview of where to find Nikkei files, information, records, data, etc, which includes a handout
  • Brief overview of what is available at the Japanese Canadian National museum, includes handout.
  •  The importance of a Koseki and handouts on how to apply for one in Japan.

There will also be samples of planning sheets, family trees, organizational materials and materials related to family history research for display, perusal and copy.
