Savour the wonderful tastes of Japan (including delicious sushi, bento boxes and sweet manju desserts). Experience demonstrations of ikebana, tea ceremony, bonsai, shodo, sumi-e, kendo and aikido. Enjoy performances by Uminari Taiko, the Furusato Dancers, Satomi Edwards (Koto), the VJHLSS Children’s Dance Group and Choir and many more!

This year’s highlights:

  • Naomi Sato, Bruce Huebner & Miyama Tokita will be doing a musical presentation called “Chrysanthemums & Maple Leaves: Sho, Shakuhachi & Koto” in the Craigflower Room at 12:15pm.
  • Brian Angene who recently founded the Victoria Kyudo Association will be returning to do a presentation on Kyudo (Japanese Archery) in the Craigflower room at 12:45pm.
  • Vic48 (a local take on AKB48) and PLOM Cosplay will be showcasing some Japanese pop culture in the Jubilee Hall at 1:15pm.
  • Gordon & Ann-Lee Switzer, our resident historians of Victoria’s early Japanese community and authors of the book Gateway to Promise: Canada’s First Japanese Community will be giving an illustrated talk in the Craigflower room at 1:45pm.
  • Daniela Cubelic who owns Silk Road Tea will be joining us for the first time to do a presentation on The Artistry of Japanese Tea  in the Craigflower room at 2:45pm.
