VNCS AGM – A word from our President

VNCS AGM

Hello and Happy New Year of the Horse!

Thank you to those members who attended our annual Mochi Tsuki Shinnen  Kai with the Japanese Friendship Society and Japanese Language School last Sunday. It was a fun event with about 150 people of all ages bringing in the new year.

And it wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers and performers and organizing committee from all the groups.

It was truly a great way to start off the new year.

This Saturday, February 1 the VNCS will hold our Annual General Meeting. Please come and support your society. The meeting is at the InterCultural Association of Greater Victoria 930 Balmoral Road.

The meeting starts at 10 am so please arrive prior to this. If you arrive late and the doors are locked, please call 250-216-7036 and someone will come and get you.

Parking along Balmoral is 2 hours so we will take a refreshment break to allow people to move their cars before the movie.

The movie will be Hatsumi, a documentary by fourth generation JC Christopher Hope about her grandmother, Nancy Okura. Light refreshments will be served.

We are actively seeking new directors to join our board. We are sad and sorry to see Craig Mercer and Noreen Scarth step down this year and we appreciate all of their hard work throughout their terms. We had already been short handed as we lost two members the previous year while gaining one.

Please consider joining us. Many of our current board members have served many years and would like to pass the torch. We are getting more and more requests to participate in events but as we saw last year we had to decline several opportunities and those new ventures were taken on by a small core group.

Help keep our society vibrant and relevant throughout the year.

Respectfully,
Michael Abe

President, Victoria Nikkei Cultural Society
